A few sketches I can conclusively point "this is where this idea came from!" This is one of them. At least, I'm pretty sure I remember where this was from.
A shipyard is not a single structure, but instead a whole collection of major industrial structures that converts raw materials and feedstocks into warships.
It only took a few jump points to be charted before deWulf explorers discovered warp points that had formed inside interstellar nebulae. In addition to the amazing scientific opportunities this offered, industrial interest followed quickly afterwards.
