Another really old sketch, I can’t remember what inspired the idea of having an octagonal shipyard, but it was one that very quickly grew on me. The original idea was that each side would have another shipyard slip, but quickly enough it became apparent that on the inside there could really only be two good spots for construction slips. The rest of the sides (the corners, and top/bottom) ended up getting filled in with various details here and there, mainly all of the other components that a shipyard needs to work. There’ll be some other sketches that fill in some of those details.
