Constellation

As the number of star systems in the deWulf Corporate Democracy increased, it slowly became apparent that an additional administration layer was required between the individual planets and the Ruling Council and their various administrative bodies. With over ten colonized systems and almost triple that in claimed but officially uninhabited systems, increase in routine manners being escalated was growing at a geometric rate. In response, in 11.1-01 AS, the Ruling Council officially unveiled the “constellation” administrative level.

Resting above the star system level of government, the constellation level primarily deals with matters of trade, infrastructure, and other larger logistical and governmental decisions. They handle the approval of new colonies in the constellation, apportion costs of maintaining constellation-wide infrastructure (such as shipping inspection patrols, navigational relays, and communication bouys), and help mediate disputes between planets regarding various disputes. Of these various issues, the largest single issue was the continual proliferation of smaller sub-planet claims, and for many of these smaller colonies, the next legal level of government itself was the Ruling Council.

Each constellation has some limited self government, and has some discretion when it comes to military and defensive spending (though only during peacetime). This funding tends to leave constellations open to graft and corruption, but no more so than the rest of the Corporate Democracy.

    1. Thanks!

I’m a little sad this month kind of careened out of control and I wasn’t really able to keep up with the AtoZchallenge, but I’m still gonna chip away at it, even if I haven’t “officially” finished. It’s been a bit of an eyeopener, and a challenge. But an enjoyable one!
