And now we’re at the end of December, and of the year as well.
December was a bit more productive than the rest of the fall. Not really in a kind of “pumping out the turns and the stories” kind of a way. Or sadly even in a “getting product written” kind of a way either, but more in the same line of building the foundation. I spent a bit of time writing out some additional notes and backfiller, as well as getting other empires caught up more to where they need to be. There’s still some turns that need processing, but progress is being made!
Another thing that I started to do this year in the fall is Sketch Sunday, where I take bits and pieces of sketch and design work I’ve done over the years and post up a part of it, along with some discussion about what made it interesting and how it fits into the universe. It’s been a bit of a challenge to get that all going on something that resembles a good schedule, but it’s becoming easier and easier to do, and it’s also giving me a chance to back up and organize all my sketches to boot.
One additional part of that was me bringing my new PC online. I’d been planning on getting a new machine in 2019, and I finally pulled the trigger in November when I had enough cash saved up to make it happen without going deep into debt. It took about a month from then for me to be able to take the machine home (for the first time I actually had the store do the build instead of doing it myself), caused mainly by a set of dead ram sticks. Kind of a good thing that I had them build it; I’d not have figured out dead ram for a while. But that meant that the delivery time extended right till a week before Christmas, so that bumped back the actual switch-over till just after Christmas.
So once that got done, the longer process of downloading, installing, and configuring a new machine started. I’m still a good ways from being done with that, but it’ll be a slower process that inevitably just deals with me (re)discovering what I previously had installed or set up but don’t. I know I still have to reinstall my mapping software, as well as a host of other more specialized stuff. But that will get done when it needs to be.
So! Goals for 2020:
- Push the turn processing up to get everyone lined up and done 140.
- Set up and run the 3rd Battle of Elysium to a conclusion
- Do a full overhaul and update of my map (as seen on Fleet Management Mk2) so it’s all on one well-organized map WITH space to expand
- Finish the writing work for Scenario Book 1 – The First Contact War
- Go do a second pass on the artwork for Scenario Book 1, incorporating new details and design concepts over the past year
- Start fishing in my contacts to find someone who can do proofreading for Scenario Book 1.
They aren’t really in a good and solid order (#3 is definitely not 3rd in the priority list, as an example), but they are all things I want to get done for 2020. The unspoken one there as well is
7. Put Scenario Book 1 on sale.
That one I’m holding my breath on, as it ALSO has a few additional threads kind on it that aren’t under my control, but honestly with my pace, those should get resolved way before I’m in a position where they will actually matter.
